Brotha Dre and D-lane had new music Grand Rapids artist Beaconlight won an online contest and opened the first of four great concerts this year. Blacklight Detroit On July 2, the 2nd concert of the year featured Tedashii performing new from his critically acclaimed album Blacklight. It was great to see the crowd get jumping as Tedashii performed hit after hit including Riot, Dum Dum, Go Hard, Get Up and ended his set with the rap worship song He Lives. Tedashii performed with a live band and had S.O. from the UK with him on Get Up. Mahogany Jones head a listening session for her new project Pure, had a number of guest spots, and gave Detroit a glimpse of what to expect on her new album. Viktory and R-swift came in from out of town and performed great sets including hit songs Awesome God(R-swift) and On Fire(Viktory). Both showed that there are strong artists in the gospel rap genre beyond the more well-known Reach Records artists. David Michael opened up the show with a high energy set that set the atmosphere of the evening. Loyalty Soldiers from Detroit won a pre-event contest and opened the set with their hit song Samson. It was great to see them bring their friends on stage while everyone was doing the Samson dance. The fans in Detroit were in for a special treat as the afterparty as D-maub, K-drama, Yaves the Street Pastor, Big Fil, SO, D-lane, AJ da Representative and BIZZLE! all performed short sets to the delight of a packed house at the Upper Room. This made for a special night for everyone this July 2. Man Up Detroit On October 14 at Second Ebenezer church, Fearless Entertainment promoted Reach Records event Man Up Detroit. Man Up was a national concert series, movie release with an accompanying group album. Reach Records artists Lecrae, Trip Lee, Tedashii , Pro, KB, Andy Mineo, DJ Official along with Sho Baraka were present for this event. This was a unique event where the Man Up movie was shown and then Detroit’s Calvin Moore moderated a panel discussion on what manhood means. We had a full concert that had the crowd both reflecting on thoughtful songs like Just Like You and Background and getting hype on Riot, Dum Dum, Go Hard. Each concert segment started with a spoken word on one of the Man Up topics(Temptation, Authority, Responsibility, Courage, Envy, Repentance) and the album song on that topic. Before the event, the music video for the Man Up Anthem was shot on location on the east side of Detroit with local artists and fans acting in the video. That excellent video is up to 150K+ views on youtube. Misfit Tour Detroit On October 29, the last concert of the year was Misfit Tour Detroit. The lineup featured Mali Music, Da Truth, The Ambassador, B-Reith, & Sean Simmonds. There was also a Misfit Search pre-show where local acts performed to get the opportunity to open the main 6PM concert. Joshua Generation were the Misfit Search winners in Detroit and performed during the main show. All the Misfit Tour artists performed well. B Reith was a highlight as many didn’t know him but he won many fans that night and sold out of product before the show was over. Da Truth and The Ambassador ministered to the crowd and had the crowd moving all night. Mali Music started his set singing Gimme Dat, his song with Kirk Franklin from the Hello Fear album and showed why he will be the next gospel artist to get widespread mainstream appeal. Derek Luke, well-known actor from Antwone Fisher, Notorioius and many other movies, stopped by the concert as a guest of Mali Music also. Thanks to everyone for supporting the events and look for more in 2012. |
